FragomenGrace Baker Young Professionals Hello. My name is Laurence and I have been attending Young Professionals events for the last year and am now on about my 10th event. Over the past few months, I have been engaged in learning more and more about solicitor apprenticeships. As a young black teenager aspiring to enter the world of law, the experiences I have gained from these events have been invaluable and will surely help me pursue my career. I have learnt more about how to become an apprenticeship as well as committees such as the Black Apprenticeship Network. At this event today, I have learnt about how influential Fragomen is as a law firm, providing immigration support to over 170 countries worldwide. From my research, I found that Fragomen has 60 offices worldwide and have been specialising on immigration for over 70 years!First, Hifsu spoke about his experiences after a few years at Fragomen. His insight was very useful and taught me how there is something new to learn in law every single day. As well as this, his words taught me that immigration law is actually very important in society and affects all aspects of our day to day lives, rather than the false perception of it just being about asylum seeking. Overall I was really inspired by Hifsu due to our similar backgrounds.Throughout the event, I also heard exceptional insights from a range of employees, such as Catherine who taught me that I can achieve anything as long as I work hard and motivated myself to do the best I can.Towards the end, I heard from worldwide companies l, including Amazon, Baker Hughes and Chanel. I learnt about global mobility, which is when companies transfer employees across borders from one location to another. This gave me even more encouragement to pursue a career in law as I love the idea of helping others whilst travelling.I learnt that worldwide firms work with Fragomen. Harpreet from Chaneltaught me that it is beneficial to go into the office in order to learn and make decisions from real experiences to hone technical skills. I also loved her statement 'become known for being a doer'In conclusion I believe that this event has been one of the best that I have ever attending. The key message I take away from this is the phrase 'learning leads to earning', which Michael stated. I would like to thank all the speakers.i heard from including Ben Molyneux, Hifsu Hans, Catherine Robinson and Grace Baker amongst others, for an outstanding event. 👏

"How did I know immigration law was the right field for me?" One question that aspiring female attorneys often ask me. The answer is simple: I immersed myself in it.Early in my career, uncertain about my legal path, I decided to intern in different fields. One day, I found myself working on an immigration case that touched my heart. The connection I felt with the individuals navigating complex immigration journeys signaled that this was where my passion lay.My advice to all future female attorneys is to intern and put yourself in diverse situations within the legal realm; my inclination was immigration law. Dive into the stories, engage with the challenges, and witness the success stories. Practical experience will reveal what law speaks to your heart and aligns with your purpose. So my message to those unsure about what law to practice is this: Explore, intern, and discover your passion within different areas of law. Your journey might surprise you, just as mine did. University of Connecticut #internship #linkedin #immigration #lawyer #women #interview

#ShoutoutSunday: Please give a warm welcome to our new intern Yatzaret Aguirre-Sanchez! She felt compelled to intern with SLC because of the work we do with the homeless population and decriminalizing poverty. She feels that often times people turn a blind eye to those who are less fortunate and treat them inhumanely without realizing it could happen to anyone. She loves that SLC works to protect the homeless because they need it the most. FAVORITE PART OF INTERNING WITH SLC: The people! Everybody is so kind and the energy is great!FUN FACT: I can play happy birthday on the accordion!FUTURE GOALS: I would like to practice either immigration law or wrongful conviction exoneration. As a Mexican-American, I grew up with seeing how the law sometimes works against hard-working families who have come into this country without a single dollar in their hands and only with the clothes they are wearing. It is unfair that because of a single piece of paper they cannot have the same benefits a citizen would and yet the government will gladly give them a ITIN number so they can pay taxes. While it is unlikely that I change the law, I can still help those around me and the community I grew up in by facilitating and bridging the law to them. #meettheteam #interns #interning #internpositions #slcinterns #lawinterns #lawfirmlife #lawyerlife #socialjustice #civiljustice #probonolawfirm #floridalawfirm

TPS does have its perks, but is it enough? In this post, I'm going to just focus on the benefits of TPS1. Protection Against Deportation: TPS holders are protected from deportation and are allowed to stay in the United States for the designated period under the law. 2. Work Permit: TPS holders are eligible for employment authorization, allowing them to work in the U.S. as a green card holder or a U.S. citizen. 3. Travel Authorization: TPS beneficiaries may be eligible for travel authorization to travel outside the United States and return. This is often known as 'Advance Parole.' However, TPS holders are still advised not to travel since Advance Parole does not guarantee a re-entry. 4. Driver's License: TPS holders are generally eligible to apply for a driver's license. Although TPS is an excellent option for those who may not have other means of fixing their immigration status in the U.S., it is not permanent. It does not allow for a pathway toward legal permanent residency or U.S. citizenship. Northeastern University #internship #linkedin #immigration #lawyer #women #interview

Helping clients with short-term global mobility needs through efficient processing of J-1 visa Sponsorship.

📢 Let's talk about home ties! The J-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa. It should not be used as a means to obtain permanent residency in the United States. Because of this, at the embassy, exchange visitors will often be asked to prove their home ties to their country of origin or residency. This can look like a lot of different things to different people but it's important to be prepared at the consulate interview. As an intern, a university enrollment letter is usually sufficient evidence that they intend to return home to complete their degree. As a trainee, it can be more difficult. We recommend providing proof of property ownership, like a car or home, a letter from an employer stating that they support this traineeship, even evidence of involvement in their community such as a religious center, sports club, volunteer work, etc. Ultimately. the burden of proof falls to the exchange visitor to be able to communicate their intent to return home after completion of their program. If you have questions about home ties, feel free to reach out!#j1visa #nonimmigrantvisa #visasponsorship #globalmigration #immigrationservices #visaservices #hometies #visarejection #visaapproval #internationalinternship #internationalexchange

We are still accepting transfer applications for the fall! Apply by June 30 at https://bit.ly/3JlIHW6. Curious about what it’s like being a transfer student at King Hall? Meet transfer student Carla Borderies ’25!Carla attended Golden Gate University School of Law before transferring to University of California, Davis Law. At King Hall she is Publication Editor for the Immigration and Nationality Law Review and a member of the Immigration Law Association. She hopes to practice immigration law and pursue public interest work. Q: What interested you in transferring to King Hall?A: King Hall’s Immigration Law Clinic and immigration classes drew me in. Additionally, the support students receive in finding internships by having access to job fairs and job postings, gaining practical experience through school events and webinars, and bar prep opportunities were crucial in my decision to transfer.Q: What has been a highlight of your time at King Hall so far?A: The community has been incredibly welcoming and I have really enjoyed getting to know fellow students, attending events outside of school, and getting involved with student groups. I’ve also enjoyed exploring campus and taking daily walks in the beautiful arboretum.Q: How do you engage with the King Hall community outside of class?A: I volunteer with the Immigration Law Association at naturalization and asylum clinics to assist with drafting immigration applications. It has been a rewarding experience to continue getting practical experience and meeting practitioners in the field while getting to know fellow students who share my interests.Q: What has been your favorite class so far, and why?A: Criminal Procedure with Professor Elizabeth Joh! Understanding searches and seizures, Miranda rights, and constitutional protections is crucial, and the class served as a great foundation for other classes.Q: Do you have any advice for students thinking about transferring to UC Davis Law?A: Leave time to draft/edit your personal statement, ask professors for letters of recommendation as soon as possible, and make sure to include transfer/FAFSA application due dates in your calendar.#UCDavisLaw #UCDavis #KingHall #TransferStudents #LawStudents
